One for Al Franken

Veteran gets one-on-one chat with Franken

By Lawrence Schumacher • lschumacher@stcloudtimes.com • August 9, 2008

There’s an old saying in politics that elections are won or lost one vote at a time.

On Friday, DFL-endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken demonstrated how true that saying can be, when a roundtable on veterans issues at Brigitte’s Cafe his campaign scheduled drew only one participant.

Character Doesn't Matter?

While I could bash John Edwards forever and say bad things I'm not because it is now purposeless; he's a liar, crook, and performed fraud on the entire country. Elizabeth Edwards must feel bad and we should feel for her. But, one thing I do have to question is that if she knew of this affair in 2006, why did she continue to praise her husband during the campaign and lie to the American people.

Now to the important parts which is of course the media's bias of this story. The media would not even touch this story until it was admitted by John Edwards even though there was so much evidence against him. But, when he did admit to the affair, many tried to defend his actions. Many on MSNBC said that at least he apologized and that he said he was sorry and that it should be kept personal between his family. No, a person in public life who was months before running for president and he was a VP contender and was possibly going to be speaking at the Democrat's convention every move of their should be scrutinized.

That is the problem with many Democrats in that they don't believe that things that they do in their personal life should affect them in their public life serving the country. A great example of this was when Sean Hannity asked Kirsten Powers whether or not this should matter and she said that it shouldn't. Every move that you do reflects what would you do in the White House or Congress or any other public office. Judgment is the most important characteristic for a person in public office to have. If you decide to break a pact that you made with your wife, how can we Americans be sure that you won't lie, cheat, or steal. Once you lie in your marriage, you lie to all Americans because after that we Americans don't know on what to trust you anymore. That's why when Senator Larry Craig pleaded guilty to his affairs in a men's bathroom I personally wanted him to resign just like Senator David Vitter who was caught in the middle of the DC Madame Scandal.

Another part to the media bias was that some on MSNBC said that this has no reflection on the Democratic Party, but when Senator Larry Craig and Senator David Vitter were arrested, many Democrats said as they go down so does the Republican Party with them. But, who was Senator Craig and Senator Vitter compared to John Edwards. Edwards is one of the biggest names of the Democratic Party. The media has gone too far in that they were so happy to put blame on the Republican Party because they championed ethics while many scandals were unfolding in 2006, but not many Democrats themselves put blame on Bill Clinton, Rep. William Jefferson of Louisana (trial begins in the fall), and now John Edwards. I'm sure there are more Democrats who have been caught lying, but I can't think of any right now. There is no doubt in my mind that the media bias corresponds to the horrendous ratings of MSNBC and CNN. This kind of bias will probably never stop even though it should, but at least we have websites like national review, newsbusters, weekly standard, drudge report, world net daily still covering this horrific bias.

And one more note to John Edwards which I just have to mention even though you said you didn't love her and that you started dating her while her was cancer was in remission still does not make it right. Also, why did you visit Ms. Hunter this year if you broke it off in 2006. If some of the money donated to your campaign was used to reroute Ms. Hunter and Andrew Young all across the country you should say that you are sorry to the American people who supported you. (I'm not one of them).
