New Poll Shows Race Getting Closer

Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby Poll:
Obama 47%, McCain 45%

The telephone tracking poll shows neither candidate with a clear advantage in the national horserace

UTICA, New York - The race for President of the United States remains far too close to call between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain as both candidates head toward the finish line, a recent Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby daily tracking telephone polls shows.

The Second Presidential Debate Recap

Overall, the debate was not a chuck full of issues, but instead it was full of rhetoric. Each candidate tried to better their opponent with who had the better rhetoric. There was no rebuttal opportunities because Tom Brokaw did not allow them to time to do so. This was not a real townhall meeting and because of that this debate failed as a way for Americans to be informed on the candidates. The questions were so limited in scope that many undecided Americans would not be able to really understand all the candidate's issues and viewpoints. It was boring and bland and it was only a question and answer session.

On many issues, McCain was better on rhetoric. On the issues of taxes, McCain did a good job explaining that he does not want to raise taxes on anybody compared to Obama raising taxes on the top five percent. Finally, on health care he explained his detailed proposal so all Americans would realize that his plan is better than Senator Obama's. All I can say is that on the question of Israel, McCain came out stronger as an ally of Israel. Obama would first approach the UN if a problem with Israel arises, but McCain said brilliantly and effic tively his position, "Of course we would come to their aid without waiting for the UN." That was probably the only moment that I at least will remember, but there really were not any memorable moments to take from this "debate" and I have very little to comment on the actual answers from both candidates, but only that this "debate" failed the American people and was a complete waste of time.

The Second Presidential Debate (Townhall)

Tonight's second presidential debate will be moderated by Tom Brokaw. At least this moderator does not have book coming out on inauguration day about Barack Obama. Tonight's debate is very important to Senator McCain's chances of winning the presidency on November 4. The economy is not doing so well and with an unpopular president and a country tired of war this election is looking like it is moving closer and closer in Obama's favor. This year was supposed to be a Democratic year, but somehow Senator McCain and the Republican Party has survived up until now.

This debate is important because it will mostly be about the economy; the most important issue in American's minds. If Senator McCain wants to convince the American people that he is ready to lead on the foreign policy front and on the economy, he must be strong tonight and clear on what are his exact plans for this country going forward. Senator McCain needs to explain to the American people why his tax cuts for the so called rich and corporations will benefit the American people. I have been calling for him to do this for quite some time, but still has not explicitly explained why his economic plans are good for America. The economy should be a strong point for Republicans, but they have not done well explaining why their tax cutting plans are good for America. Senator McCain should invoke President Ronald Reagan and explain that when he cut taxes there was an economic boom. Senator McCain should invoke Ronald Reagan as long as it pertains to the economic issue at hand.

If Senator McCain wants to win he should stop saying he is a maverick without explaining what are his exact plans and why they are good for this country. The Saturday Night Live skit where it mocked Governor Palin was spot on because just saying you are a maverick is not enough to sway voter's opinions. Real issues need real solutions and not just talk about the type of person that you are. Tonight's debate is McCain's strength because it is a townhall style debate forum. Senator McCain has been doing this before and these townhall meetings are actually how many have gravitated to supporting his candidacy. Senator McCain originally proposed 10 townhall style debates to Senator Obama, but Obama turned his offer down. As long as Senator McCain sounds like he has real answers to America's problems and explains them as thoroughly as he can, he can potentially win tonight's debate. This is your night Senator McCain. Make or break the country's future.

And Democrats Wanted to Funnel Money to This Organization

ACORN Vegas Office Raided in Voter Fraud Investigation

ACORN's Las Vegas headquarters has been raided by Nevada authorities looking for evidence of voter fraud.

FOXNews.com

Tuesday, October 07, 2008

Nevada state authorities seized records and computers Tuesday from the Las Vegas office of an organization that tries to get low-income people registered to vote, after fielding complaints of voter fraud.

Bob Walsh, spokesman for the Nevada secretary of state's office, told FOXNews.com the raid was prompted by ongoing complaints about "erroneous" registration information being submitted by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also called ACORN.

Could There Be a Bradley Effect?

Nobody likes to talk about this, but this does happen. The Bradley effect does occur in politics, even though it is not widely discussed. Tom Bradley, an African-American was ahead in the polls before election day in the 1982 California gubernatorial election against a white Republican named George Deukmejian, but when election day came around he lost. The media outlets were so sure that Tom Bradley who was the mayor of Los Angeles at the time, had won based on exit polls and polling done before the election, but they turned out to be wrong. It is now known as the Bradley effect when usually whites tell pollsters that they are undecided or voting for the black politician as a way to appear not racist, but when election day comes around they vote for their opponent. Nobody really knows how many actual races were affected by the Bradley effect, but there is a list of elections that make it look suspicious.

I only write this today because yesterday on Special Report on Fox News, Brit Hume brought this up to Juan Williams, an African-American. Juan Williams said it is very possible that the Bradley effect could occur in this election, but would not matter due to Obama's lead in the polls. He predicted that it would only be worth 5% of a difference. But, that 5% could be big in this election, especially considering that Obama does not have a surmountable lead in the polls. Two new polls I posted today by CBS and Zogby, show that the race is actually getting tighter, so it makes me wonder how much if any will the Bradley effect play in the 2008 presidential election.

It Always Has to Come Back to Race for the Democrats

Frank says GOP housing attacks racially motivated
Oct 6 08:12 PM US/Eastern
By GLEN JOHNSON
AP Political Writer

BOSTON (AP) - Rep. Barney Frank said Monday that Republican criticism of Democrats over the nation's housing crisis is a veiled attack on the poor that's racially motivated.

The Massachusetts Democrat, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said the GOP is appealing to its base by blaming the country's mortgage foreclosure problem on efforts to expand affordable housing through the Community Reinvestment Act.

He said that blame is misplaced, because those loans are issued by regulated institutions, while far more foreclosures were triggered by high-cost loans made by unregulated entities.

"They get to take things out on poor people," Frank said at a mortgage foreclosure symposium in Boston. "Let's be honest: The fact that some of the poor people are black doesn't hurt them either, from their standpoint. This is an effort, I believe, to appeal to a kind of anger in people."

Barack Obama's proclamation last July to being a "citizen of the world" was affirmed Monday as a new poll -- taken before the August conventions -- showed that in 16 out of 17 countries surveyed he was the overwhelming choice to be the next president of the United States.

Russia displayed its military strength in the Mediterranean yesterday after warships heading to Venezuela passed through the Strait of Gibraltar in the second deployment of Russian naval vessels in the waterway since the Cold War.

People Who Vote for Corruption Should Expect Corruption

Despite facing a 16-count indictment on racketeering and soliciting bribes, Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.) still has another political lifeline.

The scandal-plagued congressman finished in first place in a seven-candidate primary field, and will be facing television reporter Helena Moreno in the November runoff. Jefferson finished with 25 percent of the vote, while Moreno tallied 20 percent. The next-closest candidate, state Rep. Cedric Richmond, won 17 percent.

Race will likely play a prominent role in the runoff. Moreno, who is white, will have to win over a substantial number of African-American voters in the New Orleans-based district to prevail in November. About 64 percent of the district’s voters are African-American.

But the vast majority of voters voted against Jefferson in Saturday’s primary, giving Moreno an opportunity to win over those disenchanted with the congressman’s ethical problems.

Finally Going on the Offensive

Palin says Obama 'palling around' with terrorists
Oct 4 03:32 PM US/Eastern
By JIM KUHNHENN
Associated Press Writer

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin on Saturday accused Democrat Barack Obama of "palling around with terrorists" because of his association with a former 1960s radical, stepping up the campaign's effort to portray Obama as unacceptable to American voters.

Palin's reference was to Bill Ayers, one of the founders of the group the Weather Underground. Its members took credit for bombings, including nonfatal explosions at the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol, during the tumultuous Vietnam War era four decades ago. Obama, who was a child when the group was active, served on a charity board with Ayers several years ago and has denounced his radical views and activities.
