Associated Press Writer

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) - The white police sergeant criticized by President Barack Obama for arresting black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. in his Massachusetts home is a police academy expert on racial profiling.

Cambridge Sgt. James Crowley has taught a class on racial profiling for five years at the Lowell Police Academy after being hand-picked for the job by former police Commissioner Ronny Watson, who is black, said Academy Director Thomas Fleming.

Obama's Presser Does Poorly in the Ratings Game, While Fox Wins with "So You Think You Can Dance"

FOX Wins the Night With 'Dance;' 16.5 Million Watch Obama on Big Three Nets

FOX's decision not to carry Pres. Obama's news conference gave a boost to "So You Think You Can Dance."

The two-hour program saw its A18-49 average grow 8% week-to-week, likely gaining viewers against the news conference on the other three broadcast networks.

According to Nielsen overnights, 16.5 million Total Viewers watched Pres. Obama on ABC, NBC, and CBS. That's down from the 19 million who watched Obama's April 29 news conference.

Confidence in Obama and the Democrats' Stimulus Has Fallen

Just 25% Now Say Stimulus Has Helped The Economy, 31% Say it Hurt

Confidence in the $787-billion economic stimulus plan proposed by President Obama and passed by Congress in February continues to fall.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 25% of U.S. voters now say the stimulus plan has helped the economy. That’s a six-point drop from a month ago.

The Stimulus is Working Very Well

WASHINGTON – The number of newly laid-off workers seeking jobless benefits rose last week, though the government said its report again was distorted by the timing of auto plant shutdowns.

Unemployment insurance claims have declined steadily since the spring, but most private economists and the Federal Reserve expect jobs to remain scarce and the unemployment rate to top 10 percent by year-end.

Pelosi Says Health Care Bill will Have to Wait in the House

Pelosi backs off recess healthcare deadline
Posted: 07/23/09 12:37 PM [ET]
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday that the House can go home for its August recess without passing a massive overhaul.

Pelosi dismissed concerns expressed by many Democrats that a monthlong delay could give opponents more chances to rally opposition to the bill.

"I'm not afraid of August," Pelosi said. "It's a month."

Seems Like Words Don't Matter to Obama

This from back in March:

Obama: Shovel-ready jobs already on move

WASHINGTON, March 3 (UPI) -- Shovels already are hitting the ground in just the two weeks since the $787 billion stimulus package was signed, U.S. President Barack Obama said Tuesday.

"I can say that 14 days after I signed our Recovery Act into law, we are seeing shovels hit the ground."

http://www.upi.com/Top_News/2009/03/03/Obama-Shovel-ready-jobs-already-on-move/UPI-89431236123389/

Now this is what President Obama said to Katie Couric on Tuessday, July 21st:

Katie Couric: But what's taking so long? Only about $60 billion of the nearly $500 billion of stimulus money has been dispersed. And a lot of people are saying, "What's taking so long?"

President Obama: The money that's taken a while to get out is actually the money for infrastructure projects, but that's always the case. Because you can't start building a road or a bridge without making sure that the studies have been done. The engineering reports are there. And we don't want to waste this money.

Of Course Senator Graham Would Support Sotomayor

GOP’s Graham Will Vote for Sotomayor

Sen. Lindsey Graham announced Wednesday that he intends to vote to confirm Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.

The South Carolina Republican is the first GOP member of the Judiciary Committee to come out in support of Sotomayor, and he could provide some cover for other conservative Republicans to support her as well.
