Most Americans Still Disapprove of Senate Health Care Bill and Using Taxpayer Dollars for Abortion Funding

December 22, 2009 - U.S. Voters Oppose Health Care Plan By Wide Margin, Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; Voters Say 3-1, Plan Should Not Pay For Abortions

As the Senate prepares to vote on health care reform, American voters "mostly disapprove" of the plan 53 - 36 percent and disapprove 56 - 38 percent of President Barack Obama's handling of the health care issue, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Voters also oppose 72 - 23 percent using any public money in the health care overhaul to pay for abortions, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds.

Poll Numbers Continue to Decline for "The One"

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 25% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-six percent (46%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -21 That’s the lowest Approval Index rating yet recorded for this President (see trends).

...

For the second straight day, the update shows the highest level of Strong Disapproval yet recorded for this President. That negative rating had never topped 42% before yesterday. However, it has risen dramatically since the Senate found 60 votes to move forward with the proposed health care reform legislation. Most voters (55%) oppose the health care legislation and senior citizens are even more likely than younger voters to dislike the plan.

Bloomberg and Paterson Both Disapprove of Senate Health Care Bill

Gov. Paterson, Mayor Bloomberg and other NY pols: Health care bill is prescription for disaster

Tuesday, December 22nd 2009, 4:00 AM

The Senate health reform bill is packed with lumps of coal for New York's Christmas stocking.

Gov. Paterson, Mayor Bloomberg and other officials warned the Senate plan would:

- Force the city to close 100 health clinics.

- Blow a $1 billion hole in the state's budget.

- Threaten struggling hospitals, nursing homes and other facilities.

"It is really a disgrace and we've got to make sure that we fight before the bill is finally passed," Bloomberg fumed.

Sebelius Knows the Abortion Compromise Only Helps People in Favor of Abortion

Via Verum Serum:

Video: Sebelius Praises Abortion Accounting Trick in Senate Bill

Morgen on December 21, 2009

As you are probably already aware, Democratic Senator Ben Nelson caved over the weekend on his objections to the Senate health based on abortion coverage. Nelson had originally insisted on language matching the Stupak amendment from the House bill, which would effectively ban abortion coverage within any government-funded health insurance plan. The “compromise” Nelson ultimately agreed to is virtually identical to the much weaker language from the original Senate Finance committee bill, with the most notable exception being that individual state insurance exchanges will be able to opt-out from including plans which cover abortion. (But this will require state legislatures to pass new laws restricting this coverage, setting off a perpetual battle between pro-life and pro-abortion activists across the country.)

...

The basic compromise however is an accounting gimmick, where the federal government will require that all participants in the new insurance exchanges – men and women of all age groups – contribute a separate “abortion premium” to cover the cost of elective abortion services. In other words, the federal government will legally compel you to contribute funds exclusively designated to pay for abortion into the new government-run system. Regardless of whether you have any personal need or desire for abortion coverage, and regardless of whether you have any religious or moral objections to abortion.

Health Secretary Kathleen Sebelius explains how it will work in an interview with BlogHer earlier today:

It Takes More than Effort to be a Successful President

Posted: December 21st, 2009 04:45 AM ET

From

Washington (CNN) – Not every Republican is a critic of President Obama. At least one thinks the president is doing a fine job – at least when it comes to the effort involved in being the country’s chief executive.

Asked to give Obama a grade as the end of the president’s first year in office approaches, Arnold Schwarzenegger, California’s Republican governor, gave Obama high marks.

But a Government Run Health Care would Run More Efficiently

Report finds 'imprudent spending' at Postal Service

By Scott Zamost, CNN Special Investigations Unit
December 18, 2009 6:01 p.m. EST

(CNN) -- The U.S. Postal Service spent more than $792,000 "without justification" on meals and events in one five-month period even as it reported losing $3.8 billion this year, the agency's inspector general says in a report.

Employees spent $792,022 on meals and external events "without justification for food purchases, purchased alcohol without officer approval and exceeded the dollar limit for meals," the report says.

Democrats are Closer to Passage of Senate Health Care Bill

Another two hurdles are passed in the Senate today and the Democrats are on schedule to pass their health care bill by Christmas eve. Reid's Manager's Amendment is passed by a vote of 60-39, with Senator Inhofe from Oklahoma not voting. Also, cloture is invoked on another amendment of Reid's by a vote of 60-39, with Senator Inhofe from Oklahoma not voting. The votes were split across party lines.
