Iran to Suspend Google's Email

Iran to Suspend Google's Email

Iran's telecommunications agency announced what it described as a permanent suspension of Google Inc.'s email services, saying a national email service for Iranian citizens would soon be rolled out.

It wasn't clear late Wednesday what effect the order had on Gmail services in Iran, or even if Iran had implemented its new policy. Iranian officials have claimed technological advances in the past that they haven't been able to execute.

A Google spokesman said in a statement, "We have heard from users in Iran that they are having trouble accessing Gmail. We can confirm a sharp drop in traffic, and we have looked at our own networks and found that they are working properly. Whenever we encounter blocks in our services we try to resolve them as quickly as possibly because we strongly believe that people everywhere should have the ability to communicate freely online."

Ahmadinejad: Iran is Now a Nuclear State

Ahmadinejad Says Iran Is Now a 'Nuclear State'

Thursday, February 11, 2010

TEHRAN, Iran —  President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed Thursday that Iran has produced its first batch of uranium enriched to a higher level, saying his country will not be bullied by the West into curtailing its nuclear program a day after the U.S. imposed new sanctions.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad reiterated to hundreds of thousands of cheering Iranians on the anniversary of the 1979 foundation of the Islamic republic that the country was now a "nuclear state," an announcement he's made before. He insisted that Iran had no intention of building nuclear weapons.

It was not clear how much enriched material had actually been produced just two days after the process was announced to have started.

31 Years Later

Today marks the 31st anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and the protests and violence has already started. A very good site to follow what is happening over in Iran is the American Enterprise Institute's Iran Tracker here:

I will try my best to update what is occurring over in Iran. The Iranian government has come out in full force and refuses to let the protesters gain any ground in their attempt for freedom and destroying this tyrannical terrorist supporting regime. There will be more violence and arrests than usual. Also, today, the Iran said they will deliver a "punch" to the west, so we have to wait and see what that means.

Now for some updates:

Clashes Reported in Iran During Revolution Rally

Thursday, February 11, 2010

Witnesses say security forces fired paint balls to disperse anti-government protesters in one of the first clashes during ceremonies to mark the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Witnesses say that riot police fired the paint-filled balls after protesters began to chant opposition slogans in Sadeqieh Square, which is about a half-mile from a huge pro-government gathering where President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delivered a speech on Thursday.

Witnesses say there were no apparent injuries among the several hundred protesters.

However, an Iranian opposition Web site said security forces fired shots and teargas at supporters of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi staging a rally in central Tehran.
