This is Bad News

The agreement that the EU, Georgia, and Russia have in place have far reaching consequences for those democratic pro-Western countries formerly of the Eastern Bloc. Part of the proposed agreement states many bad things for Georgia, but the most staggering item is what the Russians are proposing which is this:

That Russian Federation law extends to cover all Russian citizens, wherever they might be located.

That Russian Federation law can be used to bring charges against non-Russian citizens who are not resident in Russia for crimes not committed on Russian territory, if their actions are “against the interests of the Russian Federation.

That Russia has the right to use its military force to bomb and invade the undisputed sovereign territory of a neighbor for the purpose of defending the “dignity and lives of Russian citizens,” which was the basis that Medvedev has repeatedly advanced for the operation

Therefore, the Russians could place citizens any place they (which they did for South Ossetia) and claim that their laws apply to them and if those laws are abused then they can do anything to protect them. This would be horrible for those countries formerly of the Eastern Bloc who are pro-Western and democratic. I hope that this does not slide by in the agreement without anybody noticing. This is not a simple rider attached to a bill, this could have dramatic effects for the prosperity and future of those countries formerly of the Eastern Bloc who have turned against the Russians.

Need Emergency Session

Georgian Official: Russian
Tank Convoy on the Move

Georgia's prime minister says more than 100 Russian tanks and other vehicles are moving deeper into Georgia

There needs to be an emergency session of NATO to talk about dealing with the situation in Georgia. Many would argue that Georgia should not be included because the area where Georgia inhabits is susceptibile to violence and it is too risky to get involved with a country where the location is unsecure. This is more of a reason to protect this pro-Western democratic country from other invaders like the Russians. What the Russians are doing is just like they did when the Soviet Union existed. As President Ronald Reagan called the Soviet Union the evil empire, well these Russians are just the same evil empire, just this time with an economy that is on the rise because of their dealings with Iran and their monopoly on oil throughout Europe, which in turn leads to better production of weapons. They might not have many satellite states any more, but the Russians are back and they are here to stay if the U.S. or any other country in Europe does not act before it is too late.

Some Defense in Europe

US, Poland agree to missile defense deal
Aug 14 02:42 PM US/Eastern
By VANESSA GERA and MONIKA SCISLOWSKA
Associated Press Writers

WARSAW, Poland (AP) - Poland and the United States reached an agreement Thursday that will see a battery of American missiles established inside Poland, the prime minister said, announcing a plan that has infuriated Russia and raised the specter of an escalation of tension with the region's communist-era master.

The deal, which Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said was to be signed later Thursday in Warsaw by Poland and the United States, includes what he called a "mutual commitment" between the two nations—beyond that of NATO—to come to each other's assistance in case of danger.

Finally Some Aid

Bush Orders Military to Deliver Aid to Georgia

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

WASHINGTON —  President Bush has directed the U.S. military to lead a humanitarian mission to Georgia where tens of thousands have been forced out of their homes following a Russian invasion last week that has been described by Georgia's president as an "ethnic cleansing.

A U.S. C-17 aircraft with humanitarian supplies already has arrived in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi and another C-17 will arrive there Thursday with additional medical and humanitarian aid, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said after the president's announcement.

Speaking from the White House Rose Garden with Defense Secretary Bob Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Bush said the aid mission will be "vigorous and ongoing." He warned Russia not to interfere.

Keep on Testing US

Confusion, Fear in Georgia as Russians Move Deeper

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

AP

DEVELOPING STORY: — Russian armored vehicles are moving deeper into Georgian territory, shattering a truce to end the six days of fighting.

Georgian officials say the city of Gori was looted and bombed by the Russians. An AP reporter later saw dozens of tanks and military vehicles leaving the city, roaring south.

President Bush will be making a statement at noon. Let's hope it's something meaningful than condemning Russia's actions and saying that the U.S. does not approve. Hopefully we already helping the Georgians secretly whether financially or with intelligence. They have helped us, we can not let our allies see that we are not serious at protecting them. Russia needs to be stopped before they escalate this battle to reclaim former satellite states of theirs and maybe more. They need to be stopped so they do not continue to intimidate pro-Western democratic countries who want to join NATO. America needs to stand strong with Georgia.

And Liberals Want All Americans to Use Them

ANOTHER BRIGHT IDEA
1 broken bulb pushes contamination to 300 times EPA limits
Poisonous vapor so bad, researchers recommend families no longer use CFLs

Posted: August 11, 2008

© 2008 WorldNetDaily

Compact fluorescent light bulbs have long been known to contain poisonous liquid mercury, but a study released earlier this year shows the level of mercury vapor released from broken bulbs skyrockets past accepted safety levels.

Following a story reported by WND last year about a Maine woman quoted $2,000 for cleaning up a broken fluorescent bulb, or CFL, in her home, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection studied the dangers of broken CFLs and the adequacy of recommended cleanup procedures.

The results were stunning: Breaking a single compact fluorescent bulb on the floor can spike mercury vapor levels in a room – particularly at a child's height – to over 300 times the EPA's standard accepted safety level.

Furthermore, for days after a CFL has been broken, vacuuming or simply crawling across a carpeted floor where the bulb was broken can cause mercury vapor levels to shoot back upwards of 100 times the accepted level of safety.

Stand by Georgia

We have to stand by Georgia. They stood by us in Iraq when no other country would. Georgia had 2,000 troops in Iraq considering they have a small military this act of kindness can not be taken for granted. Why are we not helping them? I can understand that we do not want to get involved with Russia or should say the reemergence of the Soviet Union. They have not helped us in any way since President Bush has taken office. Instead of fighting terror with us they are encouraging it by selling weapons and supplies to Iran. Russia should not even be on the United Nations Security Council (which is a joke) because they have not done enough to show that they are dedicated to protect peace in the world. Now they are fighting with Georgia in a ploy to take back their land even though they claim it is to protect their people.

Their people, Russians would not be there unless the Russian government would not help get them there. They have done this many times when they had their satellite states. Russia wants to take back South Ossetia once part of the Soviet Union because this little battle shows how willing the United States are to protecting their pro-Western allies and how much that they can do and be unchecked by them. No one wants to be involved with Russian again from 1945-1991 the United States was engaged with Russia, but now when serious times are emerging we can not let our friends down in Georgia. I know we might not be able to support them militarily, but maybe instead financially or with intelligence. We have let them down because now weary former satellite states of the Soviet Union who are considering joining NATO or helping the United States will not because they realize if we help them, the United States will not help us.

Russia has gained economically and militarily from their deals with Iran and their boondoggle on oil shipped to Europe. But, this is not the time to equivocate, we must protect and defend our pro democracy friends in the former Soviet Union. The United States have done nothing, no one should expect anything more from Georgia again.

More People Need to Know

If more people come to realize how radical Mr. Obama's position on abortion, some would change their vote or at least I hope they would. I'm sure most people reading townhall.com blogs know that when Senator Obama was in the Illinois State Legislature he voted against a bill that would protect a child's life if the baby somehow survived during an abortion. He claimed that it was because it did not have the neutrality clause which said that it would not define when a baby is considered a baby.

This vote was researched by National Right to Life Committee and they found the record of how Obama actually voted which is interesting. First, he voted yes to an amendment that said there would be a neutrality clause in the bill, but when the complete bill was up for a vote he voted no. Is this a political maneuever or is that a baby is never living until it speaks according to Senator Obama? I ask Senator Obama when is baby considered alive? This bill was passed by without one single congressmen or senator on Capitol Hill vote voting against it. Even NARAL the extreme abortion on demand organization said that they "We, in fact, did not oppose the bill. There is a clear legal difference between a fetus in utero versus a child that's born. And when a child is born, they deserve every protection that the country can provide them.

Many can argue whether a fetus is living or not, but no one can argue that a baby is living once it leaves the mother. This is so radical. But, just remember  this is the person who said that he does not want his daughters punished with a baby.

This should be the issue that turns all Americans away even those who support NARAL. Forget all the other negatives this is just repulsive.Mr. Obama does not want to protect a living baby who has fully left the womb which is just disgusting.

Great American Way

I usually don't comment about sports on this blog because I feel there are more important issues to discuss, but I feel this one event is worth discussing. Whatever your feelings about the Olympics being played in China (mine are mostly negative) it is still worth watching and supporting the United States men and women's teams. Yesterday's event showed what the American spirit is all about. I'm talking about the 4x100 freestyle relay for the men.

Most experts said it was impossible that the French were too good and favored by a wide margin to win even with Michael Phelps swimming on the U.S. team. Even the French with their arrogance said that they were going to smash the United States because that is what we came here to do. No thanks for saving them time after time in world conflicts. The French looked like they were going to win going into the last 50 m but the United States' James Lezak never gave up. He slowly gained on the French swimmer Alain Bernard  (person who made the quote that the French was going to smash the U.S. men's team) in the last 25 m. It looked possible, but at least in my eyes it still looked like Lezak would have to jump to get ahead of the French Bernard at the last minute. They would go back and forth one leading the other until the final 8 hundredth of a second where the U.S. Lezak stretched out his arm before the French Bernard could. Michael Phelps did not believe that it happened and took a few moments to realize that he is closer to accomplish his goals of winning 8 gold medals in one olympic games. The U.S. team erupted with excitement and and smiled like there was no tomorrow. They had accomplished the unaccomplishable well at least according to the so called experts and the arrogant French team. Also, they accomplished this feat in a record time of 3:08.24 compared to the old record of 3:12.23 and Lezak broke a record for the fastest 100 m swim in 46.06.

It just shows with the American spirit and persistence that anything is possible. The French just showed that their arrogance still exists when competing or talking about the United States. This is an important win and probably as the so called experts declared the greatest 4x100 relay in history. The Olympics might be in a bad situation, but it feels great supporting American teams over in China, especially when they beat an arrogant French team.

Are we Serious about Fighting Terrorists?

I was never able to comment on the Salim Hamdan trial mostly because I was so angry at the result. It does not make sense that a close confidant of Osama Bin Laden, a person providing support to Al Qaeda, and a person who knew when every attack was going to happen that he could get away free. First the sentence was putrid only 66 months who protected this dangerous group's leader and provided support to them. Then the judge said that he should be credited for the time he "served" in Guantanamo Bay. It just makes me sick. I was actually deliberating whether or not he should have been sentenced to death, but I said that life in prison might be good too. I received nothing and instead all those who perished in the September 11th attacks and who have fought in Afghanistan and Iraq to rid of this terrorist group are hurting the most. I, unaffected by 9/11 or the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan just wanted to see America put away one of bin Laden's top confidants and a person who helped al Qaeda in anyway that he could have. There is a somber piece about this by the great Andrew C. McCarthy of national review about whether or not the military commission trials should even exist now.

One for Al Franken

Veteran gets one-on-one chat with Franken

By Lawrence Schumacher • lschumacher@stcloudtimes.com • August 9, 2008

There’s an old saying in politics that elections are won or lost one vote at a time.

On Friday, DFL-endorsed U.S. Senate candidate Al Franken demonstrated how true that saying can be, when a roundtable on veterans issues at Brigitte’s Cafe his campaign scheduled drew only one participant.

Character Doesn't Matter?

While I could bash John Edwards forever and say bad things I'm not because it is now purposeless; he's a liar, crook, and performed fraud on the entire country. Elizabeth Edwards must feel bad and we should feel for her. But, one thing I do have to question is that if she knew of this affair in 2006, why did she continue to praise her husband during the campaign and lie to the American people.

Now to the important parts which is of course the media's bias of this story. The media would not even touch this story until it was admitted by John Edwards even though there was so much evidence against him. But, when he did admit to the affair, many tried to defend his actions. Many on MSNBC said that at least he apologized and that he said he was sorry and that it should be kept personal between his family. No, a person in public life who was months before running for president and he was a VP contender and was possibly going to be speaking at the Democrat's convention every move of their should be scrutinized.

That is the problem with many Democrats in that they don't believe that things that they do in their personal life should affect them in their public life serving the country. A great example of this was when Sean Hannity asked Kirsten Powers whether or not this should matter and she said that it shouldn't. Every move that you do reflects what would you do in the White House or Congress or any other public office. Judgment is the most important characteristic for a person in public office to have. If you decide to break a pact that you made with your wife, how can we Americans be sure that you won't lie, cheat, or steal. Once you lie in your marriage, you lie to all Americans because after that we Americans don't know on what to trust you anymore. That's why when Senator Larry Craig pleaded guilty to his affairs in a men's bathroom I personally wanted him to resign just like Senator David Vitter who was caught in the middle of the DC Madame Scandal.

Another part to the media bias was that some on MSNBC said that this has no reflection on the Democratic Party, but when Senator Larry Craig and Senator David Vitter were arrested, many Democrats said as they go down so does the Republican Party with them. But, who was Senator Craig and Senator Vitter compared to John Edwards. Edwards is one of the biggest names of the Democratic Party. The media has gone too far in that they were so happy to put blame on the Republican Party because they championed ethics while many scandals were unfolding in 2006, but not many Democrats themselves put blame on Bill Clinton, Rep. William Jefferson of Louisana (trial begins in the fall), and now John Edwards. I'm sure there are more Democrats who have been caught lying, but I can't think of any right now. There is no doubt in my mind that the media bias corresponds to the horrendous ratings of MSNBC and CNN. This kind of bias will probably never stop even though it should, but at least we have websites like national review, newsbusters, weekly standard, drudge report, world net daily still covering this horrific bias.

And one more note to John Edwards which I just have to mention even though you said you didn't love her and that you started dating her while her was cancer was in remission still does not make it right. Also, why did you visit Ms. Hunter this year if you broke it off in 2006. If some of the money donated to your campaign was used to reroute Ms. Hunter and Andrew Young all across the country you should say that you are sorry to the American people who supported you. (I'm not one of them).

Where is the FEC?

Disclaimer: The names you find below are not jokes, they are actually donations made to Senator Obama's campaign. I wonder where is the Federal Election Commission (FEC) when you actually need them? I'm truly against McCain-Feingold, but people should have to register their names and since the law exists people should not be giving more then the allotted amount per person especially not foreigners who have ties to terrorist organizations. Foreigners should not be influencing America's presidential elections. This is a disgrace by the FEC and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Meet Obama Donor Jkbkj Hbkjb

Intrepid and indispensable blogger Pamela Geller at Atlas Shrugs has been uncovering some interesting donors to Obama’s campaign.  My favorite is Jkbkj Hbkjb from the city of Jkbjnj.  His (or her) occupation is listed as “Balanon Jalalan.”  Back in October, Mr. (or Mrs.) Hbkjb gave the campaign $1,077.23.  One commenter points out that the odd donation amount could be because it was a foreign donation originally given in a round amount, but affected by the exchange rate when put in U.S. dollars.  FEC regulations allow anonymous donations, but only if they are less than $50.  Anything above $50 can’t be used in a federal campaign.

Some other donors that Geller has uncovered include:

-    Good Will (employer: Loving You)
-    Doodad Pro (employer: FDGFDGF)
-    81 donations from foreign countries ranging from 75 cents to $250 (on just one list)
-    $24,321.41 from Monir and Hosam Edwan of Rafah, Gaza (a refugee camp)
-    Over $500,000 from donors that are “not employed”

It Should be Obvious

More Taxes Will Mean Less Oil

By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Tuesday, August 05, 2008 4:20 PM PT

Energy Policy: Democrats say there should be a limit to the profits oil companies can make. Should there also be a limit on the taxes government can take? Just who's the profiteer here?

Part of the article more people should be talking about:

Speaking in support of Obama's proposal to revive the windfall profits tax, Illinois' senior senator, Dick Durbin, recently declared that, "The oil companies need to know that there is a limit on how much profit they can take in this economy." Why is there no limit to the increased taxes Obama and the Democrats want to take in this economy?

Obama once called the McCain-supported plan for a gas-tax suspension a "stunt." Now he wants to take a "reasonable amount" of oil company profits and rebate, a la George McGovern, $1,000 to families and $500 to individuals as a part of a second stimulus package to offset high gas prices, a big part of which is federal, state, and local taxes on both oil producers and consumers.

Obama does not define what a "reasonable amount" is. Nor does he define at what point profit, which is an indicator of success and not greed, becomes a windfall. Exxon made a dime on a dollar in 2007. The oil and gas industry as a whole made 8.3% compared with 8.9% of all U.S. manufacturing. Meanwhile, the federal government operated at a huge loss.

Electronics company LG saw its profits grow by 505% in 2007. Abbott Laboratories saw its profits soar 110% Google had a profit margin of 25.3%, more than double Exxon's. GE's profit was 10.7%, about the same as Exxon's, but do its subsidiary media outlets such as NBC and MSNBC report that?

In the first half of this year, Exxon Mobil's after-tax income rose 15% to $22.6 billion. The operative word is "after-tax," for what advocates of a windfall-profits tax to redistribute income ignore is that Exxon Mobil also paid a record $61.7 billion in taxes. The feds already are taking more than a "reasonable amount."
